The evening was cooling off, the sun setting and Sara’s elevator arrived at the third floor while guests were turned in their chairs waiting for her to step out of it with her daddy.
Sara and Hunter exchanged their vows on the rooftop overlooking the waves crashing against the shore in Playa del Carmen. As her daddy walked her down the aisle, Hunter lifted his glasses to wipe a tear. She’s never looked more beautiful than she did in her white, lace gown with beaded straps. Her blush and gold bouquet was lovely, and her groom was enamored. Their destination wedding was celebrated with 60 close friends and family on the rooftop with a cool ocean breeze and a reception to follow in the garden.
The day was a dream–I believe everything Sara and Hunter had hoped it would be: relaxed, fun, beautiful and intimately celebrated with loved ones.
Their day began with a massage on the beach to hold any nerves that may have surfaced at bay. Sara had her hair and makeup done in the spa while Hunter relaxed with all of his boys in their suite. Sara popped champagne and laughed with her college softball friends, childhood girlfriends and sister and sister-to-be in their suite, and the day was easy.
Jordan and I commented on this over and over again.
Easy. Relaxed. Fun. Incredible, amazingly beautiful. These are adjectives that we used over and over again while we photographed their wedding day. It was a unique experience for us in that we felt as equally as guests as we did photographers. We were encouraged to eat dinner with guests, enjoy ourselves and met so many sweet people–including small world connections where we actually knew others who attended!
I photographed Sara and Hunter’s engagement session last year after they told me their wedding was in Mexico and they wouldn’t need wedding photography services. Shortly after their session, Sara reached out and asked us if we’d consider flying to Mexico to photograph their wedding, celebrate their day with them and enjoy a little getaway after having our baby in December. Firstly, we were honored (+ GIDDY), and secondly, it was truly a sweet gesture for her to even put herself in our shoes to imagine how much fun that would be for us. Jordan and I did so much more than just enjoy a weekend getaway–we had a blast. While we missed our son, we knew he was more than okay and happy with Mimi and Papa! We felt so included, loved, and excited photographing the Nix/Vaughn wedding!
But sweet doesn’t even begin to explain Sara. She was so intentional and thoughtful throughout the whole planning process and couldn’t have made our destination wedding photography experience any better. Hunter is such a lucky husband to have such a beautiful, thoughtful, fun wife as Sara. I mean..I literally gasped out loud several times when I was editing these images for the blog on our flight home, BECAUSE SARA! Everyone can agree how stunning she is, and she is now a stunning Mrs. Nix! You could tell Hunter was so proud of her.
I hope you all can feel the love, relaxation and joy as you enjoy their Mexico beach wedding celebration! My little photographer’s heart is exploding!
